The starting point: used spindles
In June 2022, a mill in Dhule, Maharashtra, was running used spindles. Second-hand spindles keep a frame turning, but they carry the wear of their previous life with them — and that wear shows up in the yarn, in the breaks, and in the maintenance bill.
The mill had not yet moved to new spindles. What it needed was not a sales talk, but the numbers that decide the question: what a spindle costs over its life, and what it costs to keep maintaining one that is already worn.
The conversation: life and maintenance cost
Vindex explained the life and the maintenance cost, side by side: a used spindle against a new one. A new spindle is not only a new part — it is a known life, a known balance, and maintenance that can be planned instead of fire-fought. A used spindle, however cheap it looks on the day, keeps charging for the wear it arrived with.
The mill understood the comparison and chose new spindles: 400 of them, supplied in June 2022.
The customisation: one bobbin for all
The 400 spindles were a new-design LMW LR9 customised spindle — and the customisation solved a second problem the mill had not asked about, but felt every day.
The spindle was tapered in such a way that one bobbin runs in all of them. A single bobbin fits every position, so the customer does not have to buy new bobbins. One taper, one bobbin, across all 400 spindles — no new bobbin stock, no mismatch between positions.
Built to the LMW specification
The spindles were built to the LMW ring-frame specification: HF-1, HF-21, HF-100, CS1 and CS21 insert options, speeds up to 30,000 RPM, wharve diameter 18.5–22 mm, ring diameter 38/40/42/45/48 mm, tube length 165–250 mm, with an EN-31 blade, HE30-T6 aluminium plug and EN-24 wharve — for cotton, man-made fibre, wool and blends.
Then came the next order
The 400 spindles did their talking. After that, the mill gave an order for 6 machines. A mill that had run used spindles did not stop at one order — it came back for six machines.
The lesson for other mills
A used spindle is not a saving if it keeps costing maintenance. And a new spindle is worth more when it is built for the mill's own positions — down to the taper that lets one bobbin serve them all.
If your frames are still running used spindles, send your machine make and model. Vindex will show you the life and maintenance cost honestly — and build the spindle your positions need. Vindex Industries manufactures textile spindles and bolsters at Surendranagar, Gujarat, and exports to spinning and twisting mills in 87 countries.
