LMW vs Rieter vs Zinser Ring Frame: Spare Parts Compatibility Guide
Vindex technical notes · 3 Oct 2026
LMW, Rieter and Zinser are the three ring frame names found in almost every spinning mill — and their spindle bolsters are not interchangeable. Each maker uses its own bolster geometry, so the frame's make and model decides the spare, not the way the part looks. This guide maps the models Vindex covers for each maker so you can match the right bolster first time.
LMW ring frames
LMW frames are the backbone of Indian spinning, and Vindex covers the full spread: LMW ring frame spindle bolsters for the LR6, LR7, LR8 and LR9 (SX/AX) models, plus the LR60 and LRJ9. If your frame plate reads any of these, the bolster is a catalogue item — quote the model and the quantity per frame.
Rieter ring frames
Rieter compatibility runs from the older G5/1 through the G32, G33, G35, G36 and G38 series up to the G60 and G70. Rieter ring frame spindle bolsters are built to each model's dimensions, because a G33 bolster will not seat correctly in a G38 rail and vice versa. Check the frame plate before ordering — many mills run two Rieter generations side by side.
Zinser (Saurer) ring frames
For Zinser — now part of Saurer — the covered models are the 319, 351, 451, 660, 661, 670 and 720. Zinser ring frame spindle bolsters follow the same rule: model number first, appearance second.
Marzoli and KTTM
Marzoli frames take the MDS1, MDS2, MDS3, MDS5, MDS7 and MDS9 series bolsters (Marzoli range), while KTTM and Toyoda frames are served by the RX-series range (KTTM range). Chinese-make frames are covered under the China ring frame bolster listing.
Reading the frame plate
Every ring frame carries a maker plate with the model designation — usually on the headstock or the drive end. Before raising any spares enquiry, copy the make and the full model exactly as stamped, including suffixes like SX/AX on LMW frames. A photograph of the plate attached to the enquiry removes all doubt and is the fastest route to a correct quotation.
Chinese-make frames
A growing share of frames in export markets are Chinese makes. These are covered under the China ring frame spindle bolster range, with compatibility across the common Chinese platforms as well as Suessen, Texmaco, Textool and MMC machines. The same rule applies: quote the frame's own make and model from its plate.
Keeping a mixed-make store
Stores serving mixed frame makes need physical segregation: separate bins or shelf zones per maker, labels showing make and model, and issue records that note which frame received which bolster. Colour-coded labels per maker are a simple system that survives staff changes. The few minutes spent labelling save the hours lost to a wrong fitment discovered at speed.
What happens with the wrong bolster
Fitting the wrong bolster gives poor seating, vibration and premature bearing failure — the classic "the part looked right" breakdown. Two bolsters can look nearly identical and still differ in the dimensions that matter: outside diameter, overall length, and the blade seating geometry. The frame plate is the authority; the catalogue follows it. When in doubt, send the plate photograph and let the supplier confirm before you order.
How to order across mixed makes
Mills running LMW alongside Rieter or Zinser should raise separate line items per make and model rather than one bulk line — it prevents the store from issuing the wrong bolster to the wrong frame, a mistake that only reveals itself at full speed. The machine compatibility guide and technical data pages list every covered model. Send your frame list and Vindex will confirm each match before quotation.
Frequently asked questions
Why keep LMW, Rieter and Zinser spindle requirements separate?
Their machine references and spindle configurations differ. This guide compares the machine families and links to the appropriate product ranges.
Does a brand comparison establish interchangeability?
No. Use the actual machine model and spindle dimensions to identify the variant; a brand-level comparison is only a starting point.
