Doubling Spindle Rebuild: A 30-Spindle Replacement Project — product reference
Vindex product reference; not a photograph of the customer’s installation.

A brand-new machine, running slow — and the spindles still broke

Vindex makes extra heavy duty spindles for JMW machines and Meera machines. This story is about a customer who had bought a new Meera doubling machine.

When the machine reached the customer, it was run at only 1,500 to 2,000 rpm — according to the customer’s account. Even at that speed, the customer's spindles broke into two pieces.

Not one spindle. The machine had 30 spindles, and all of them broke, one after another.

Inspecting the failed assembly

The customer reported repeated blade breakage. A reliable failure diagnosis needs inspection of material, hardness, geometry, alignment and operating conditions; running speed alone does not establish the cause.

The first offer was not enough — and the customer said so

The customer then contacted Vindex. The first solution offered was straightforward: if your blade is broken, we will provide you a new blade, with fitting.

The customer did not accept that. And the customer was right: the whole machine had been bought new, it had 30 spindles, and every one of them had broken in turn. Replacing blades one by one would only repeat the same failure with the same design.

Rebuilt to our own design

So Vindex made new spindles for the customer according to its own design — and supplied them. The extra heavy duty doubler specification behind that design: HZ-55, HZ-66, HZ-68 and HZ-77 models with 20, 24 and 28 mm neck-bearing options, speeds of 3,000–7,000 rpm, lift up to 480 mm, wharve diameter up to 100 mm, ring diameter 5–12 inch, EN-31 blade and EN-24 / graded cast-iron wharve.

The result: till today, zero complaints from the customer.

What zero complaints earned

Trust, once built this way, does not stop at one machine. The customer later gave Vindex an order for spindle bolsters for 6 machines — for tyre yarn.

A new machine with 30 broken spindles became a customer who orders for 6 machines. That is what a proper design, properly checked material, and a solution that fixes the cause instead of the symptom are worth.

The lesson for other mills

Investigate repeated spindle breakage before ordering replacement blades. Send the machine model, failed-part photographs, dimensions and operating conditions so a suitable assembly can be reviewed.

Frequently asked questions

Which machine does this story cover? A new Meera doubling machine.

What happened? The machine's 30 spindles broke into two pieces, one after another, even though the machine was run at only 1,500–2,000 rpm.

What should be checked after breakage? Material condition, hardness, blade geometry, alignment, package load and the operating history should be assessed before selecting a replacement.

What did Vindex do first? Offered a new blade with fitting for each broken blade.

Why was that not accepted? The whole machine was new, it had 30 spindles, and all of them had broken in turn — replacing blades one by one would not fix the cause.

What was the final solution? New spindles made to Vindex's own design. Zero complaints from the customer till today.

What happened after that? The customer gave Vindex an order for spindle bolsters for 6 machines, for tyre yarn.
