Ring Frame Spare Parts Complete List with Functions

Vindex technical notes · 3 Oct 2026

A ring frame looks simple from the aisle — rows of spindles turning in unison — but it runs on a long list of small, hard-working parts. When one of them wears out, yarn quality drops long before the part actually fails. This guide lists every major ring frame spare part, what it does, and the signs that tell you it is time to order a replacement.

Spindle bolster

The bolster is the foundation of every spindle position. It holds the spindle blade centred at speed and carries the bearings the spindle runs on. A worn bolster shows up as vibration, poor seating and spindles that never run true. Vindex manufactures spindle bolsters for ring frames matched to LMW, Rieter, Zinser, Marzoli, KTTM and Chinese makes — the machine make and model is the first detail to confirm when ordering.

Spindle blade

The blade is the rotating part that carries the cop. It must stay straight and balanced at high speed; a bent or worn blade causes yarn hairiness and end breaks. Blades are normally replaced together with the bolster as a matched assembly.

Bottom rollers (fluted and knurled)

Bottom rollers work in pairs with top rollers to draft the fibre strand — the flutes grip and attenuate the sliver down to yarn fineness. Worn flutes lose grip and drafting becomes uneven. Precision bottom fluted and knurled rollers are available for ring frame, simplex, drawing, comber and compact duties.

Bottom roller bearings

These bearings support the bottom rollers and let them turn smoothly under drafting load. Rough or noisy bearings transmit vibration straight into the drafting zone. Bottom roller bearings are supplied by machine family, including 20 mm, 24 mm and 28 mm neck sizes.

Jockey pulley (tension pulley)

The jockey pulley keeps the spindle tapes at the correct tension between the tin roller and the spindle wharve. A seized or wobbling pulley lets tapes slip, and spindle speed falls unevenly across the frame. Heavy duty jockey pulleys for ring frames cover Rieter, LMW, Zinser, Marzoli, Textool and KTTM frames.

Spindle brake

The brake stops the spindle quickly for doffing and piecing. A brake that drags or fails to hold wastes time at every doff. Spindle brakes are matched to the frame family so the braking geometry lines up with the spindle.

Spindle cutter

On frames with auto-doffing, the cutter severs the yarn cleanly at doff time. A blunt cutter leaves tails and causes piecing failures. Spindle cutters are profiled for the doffing system in use.

Pressure fingers (flyers)

On the speed frame, pressure fingers apply the controlled pressure that lets the drafting system attenuate the roving cleanly — worn fingers are a classic source of drafting waves. The range covers drafting pressure fingers for speed frames including Toyoda FL-16, Marzoli LF-4200 and Electro Jet types.

Spindle tapes

Tapes transmit drive from the tin roller to each spindle wharve. Glazed, stretched or frayed tapes slip, and the affected spindles run slow — check tapes whenever spindle speeds vary across a frame.

How parts wear together

Ring frame parts rarely fail alone. A worn bolster vibrates the blade; a vibrating blade wears the rail seat; a damaged seat ruins the next bolster fitted into it. Similarly, slipping tapes mask themselves as spindle problems, and worn bottom roller bearings imitate drafting faults. When you replace one part, inspect its neighbours — the companion part is often halfway to failure itself. Ordering the related wear parts together saves a second shutdown a month later.

Genuine-pattern vs original parts

Most mills buy pattern parts — spares manufactured to the original dimensions by independent makers — rather than ordering from the machine builder. The economics favour it, but the discipline is the same either way: match by machine make and model, check the specification table, and confirm with the supplier before the order. A pattern part built to the right drawing performs like the original; a part ordered by appearance alone does not.

Ordering the right parts

For every part on this list, the machine make and model is the detail that matters most. Send it with your enquiry — with photographs where markings are unclear — and ask the supplier to confirm the match before quotation. Contact Vindex Industries with your frame details for a bulk quotation; spares are exported to 87 countries.

Frequently asked questions

Which ring-frame component families are covered here?

The list covers spindles and bolsters, bottom rollers and bearings, and related ring-frame spares. Use the linked product families to review the relevant components.

How should a mill prepare a ring-frame spares list?

Separate items by machine model, component reference and quantity. Include drawings or photographs where a variant cannot be identified from its marking.
