Why Dynamic Balancing Matters Above 25,000 RPM

Vindex technical notes · 28 Sep 2026

At 25,000 RPM a spindle rotates more than 400 times per second. At that speed, an imbalance of just a few micron-metres generates centrifugal forces large enough to shake the whole spindle rail.

What imbalance costs you

  • End breaks: vibration disturbs the balloon and traveller, snapping yarn.
  • Bearing life: cyclic loads overheat and fatigue bearings far before their rated life.
  • Energy: a vibrating spindle draws measurably more power per kilogram of yarn.
  • Neighbour effect: one bad spindle transmits vibration to adjacent spindles on the rail.

Dual-plane dynamic balancing

Static balancing is not enough at high speed. Every Vindex high-speed spindle is checked on a computerized dual-plane balancing machine, correcting imbalance in two planes along the rotor axis — the same principle used for precision machine-tool spindles.

Zero-vibration acceptance

After assembly, each spindle is spin-tested at operating speed. Only spindles that run vibration-free pass final inspection and ship to the mill.

Frequently asked questions

Why does spindle imbalance matter?

Imbalance adds vibration and can affect running quality and bearing load. This guide explains the relationship between the rotating assembly and balance.

What does dual-plane dynamic balancing address?

Dual-plane balancing considers imbalance at two planes of the rotating assembly. Ask for the applicable balancing and acceptance conditions for the spindle being supplied.
