Two-for-one (TFO) twisting machines run at high speeds with continuous load on the spindle bolster. Fitting the wrong bolster causes vibration, uneven twist and premature bearing failure. This guide covers the key checks before you order a replacement.
1. Match the bolster to your machine make and model
TFO bolsters are not interchangeable across makes. Vindex manufactures direct replacements for Muratec (302, 307, 310A, 363, 363 Air Threading, 373), Ratti F325, Volkmann, Veejay Lakshmi (VJ-100M, VJ-120M, VJ-150HS), Daewon, Leehwa and Meera machines. Always order by exact machine model — a bolster that “almost fits” will not run true at speed.
2. Check the speed and load rating
Confirm the bolster is rated for your machine’s operating RPM. Underspecified bolsters overheat; the bearing lubricant degrades and service life drops sharply.
3. Verify the insert and drive fit
Check spindle insert dimensions, wharve diameter and drive arrangement against your existing assembly. Match the replacement drawing, mounting and drive arrangement before installation. Machine modifications must not be assumed unnecessary from the model name alone.
4. Inspect before installation
Before fitting, spin the bolster by hand — it should turn smoothly with no rough spots or play. Check that the mounting threads and seating faces are clean and undamaged.
