Roving Frame Flyers: The Part That Decides Your Roving Quality

Roving Frame Flyers: The Part That Decides Your Roving Quality — product reference
Vindex product reference; not a photograph of the customer’s installation.

The problem: uneven roving starts before the ring frame

When roving comes off the speed frame uneven, the ring frame inherits the problem. Package build is irregular, the roving breaks more often, and no amount of adjustment at the ring frame fully corrects what was wound badly in the first place. In many such cases the flyer itself is the first place to look.

A flyer twists the drafted fibre strand and guides the roving onto the bobbin in a speed frame or simplex. It is a separate part from a ring-spinning spindle, and it works under different demands: it must run true, guide the roving path cleanly, and build a package that unwinds evenly at the ring frame.

Two size references: 16 x 6 and 16 x 7

Vindex flyer assemblies are listed in two nominal size references:

ReferenceNominal heightNominal diameter
16 x 6406.4 mm (16 in)152.4 mm (6 in)
16 x 7406.4 mm (16 in)177.8 mm (7 in)

These are nominal size references. Mounting and working clearances follow the selected assembly drawing, so the drawing — not the size reference alone — settles the final fit.

With or without a bottom spindle

Each size reference is available in two assembly layouts:

  • Flyer with a bottom spindle — listed for manual doffing.
  • Flyer without a bottom spindle — may be selected for manual or automatic doffing, according to the frame arrangement.

Choosing the layout is a question about the frame and its bobbin envelope, not a preference. Match the mounting, the flyer reference, the bobbin dimensions and the drive arrangement before selecting an assembly. A flyer that does not suit the doffing arrangement will fight the operator at every doff.

The parts around the flyer

A flyer rarely travels alone. Enquiries can specify the associated components separately: the presser finger, spindle pin, bush, false twister and bearing housing. Presser geometry and finish are selected for the roving path; pin and bush dimensions and housing interfaces follow the machine drawing.

Ordering the flyer and its associated components together, against one drawing, keeps the whole assembly consistent. Mixed parts from different drawings are a common cause of avoidable fitting trouble.

What to check before ordering

Send these details with your enquiry:

  • Machine manufacturer, model and current flyer reference.
  • Bobbin dimensions and whether doffing is manual or automatic.
  • A mounting photograph or a dimensioned drawing.
  • Quantity and delivery destination.

Vindex supplies roving frame flyers at Surendranagar, Gujarat, and exports textile machinery spares to spinning mills in 87 countries. Send your machine details and flyer reference, and the match will be confirmed against the drawing before a quotation is given.
